How do I drive a car if I can't move the handbrake?

Adaptations
You will need to use a handbrake release lever. This should make it easier to operate it with your left arm. It also makes it easier to operate it with your right arm because the lever is higher up. Some modern cars do not have a handbrake lever. Instead they have an electronic handbrake and an automatic handbrake. The electronic handbrake is used to secure the car when you park it and is easily operated by pressing or lifting a button with your finger. The automatic handbrake, or auto hold, is used to secure the car when you stop in traffic or at junctions. The automatic handbrake is put on and released automatically by the car.
